Earth Observation Data Challenge

How can  we use earth observation data to monitor the economic activities in select countries in Asia?

CHALLENGE OVERVIEW

The use of earth observation (EO) data has increasingly become popular for crisis monitoring and response. Economic research has started using EO data to draw patterns and key insights into the economic impacts of COVID-19 crisis.  It is key for organisations and governments to obtain timely and accurate information in order to provide appropriate response during and after crisis.

How can  we use earth observation data to monitor the economic activities in select countries in Asia?

ADB is calling for solutions to measure the short-term changes in economic activities brought about by COVID-19. This specific challenge will make use of EO data of any applicable satellite images or any processing infrastructures.  Solutions should provide models and data analytics presented in a dashboard format in select countries in Asia, specifically in Cambodia, People's Republic of China (PRC, specifically, Yunnan Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region), Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines and Indonesia.

DATA

This challenge will utilise the following data:

  • Free and Open EO Data coming mainly from the Copernicus Constellation;
  • Commercial EO Data;
  • Non-EO data

 YOUR SOLUTION SHOULD BE TO ADDRESS TWO OR MORE AREAS OF INTEREST BELOW:

PRODUCTION

Energy production, (e.g. non-renewable);
Industrial production, (e.g. emission monitoring)

AGRICULTURE AND ENVIRONMENT
