Data Storytelling and Visualization Challenge

The Key Indicators for Asia and the Pacific presents the latest statistics on a comprehensive set of economic, financial, social, environmental, and SDG indicators for the 49 regional members of ADB. It is designed to serve as a resource for information on development issues across the region for a wide audience, including policy makers, development practitioners, government officials, researchers, students, and the general public.

• A participation is defined as one data story OR one data visualization.
• Each participant may submit up to 3 participations.
  
• For data visualization, entries must be accompanied by a short description of not more than 100 words explaining the data visualization and how it is relevant to a development issue. Any visualization tool is allowed, although dynamic and/or interactive visuals are encouraged. Entries should be submitted in eps or ai format, and need to be accepted in multiple format, i.e., image file, video, web page, embeddable Tableau or Power BI, excel chart, etc.
• For data story, entries should not be more than 500 words with charts and tables. A participant may discuss any development topic based on data featured from the Key Indicators for Asia and the Pacific. If a participant prefers to submit entries for both data story and data visualization, he / she is encouraged to submit a data story which elaborates the data visualization entry. Entries for data stories should be submitted in pdf format.
• Use of any photographs, graphics, etc. taken from external sources such as the internet must have prior permission/authorization of the legitimate owner, a copy of which must be submitted together with the entry/ies.
• ADB reserves the right to edit and publish the entries of the winners and the runners-up on its website, publications, documents, or any other dissemination medium. ADB will also own the copyright to these entries.
• The competition is open to nationals of developing member economies of ADB with operations¹ who are 21 years old and above, irrespective of the country they currently reside in. ADB staff and their close relatives² are not eligible to participate in the competition. ADB consultants are also not eligible. An applicant should hold a valid passport of any of those ADB developing members.
• The participant must certify that the submitted entry is original and has not been previously published or made publicly available and that all property rights or licenses for all images and ideas used in the creation of the submitted entry have been obtained. The participant must also certify that the submitted entry does not infringe on any copyright, privacy rights, or legal rights of any third party.
• The winners and the runners-up must agree that the copyright of the submitted entry shall be the property of ADB, and must also agree that no royalties on copies of the publication sold or any other ADB publications or documents containing the submitted entry will be provided to the winners and runners-up.

Each entry will be judged based on:

• Overall impact (40%)
• Originality (40%)
• Choice of development topic (20%)

• Deadline for submission of entries is on 20 December 2020.
• Winning and runner-up entries will be notified through email in January 2021.
