Hackathon Overview

 
Imagine a world where technology is a force for good, where artificial intelligence helps break down gender barriers and creates opportunities for all. This is the vision driving the GenAI x Gender Tech Hackathon 2025, a groundbreaking event that brings together bright minds from across the globe to tackle some of the most pressing challenges faced by women and marginalized communities in the global south.
 
Set against the backdrop of the picturesque Amritapuri campus of Amrita University in Kerala, India, this hackathon is more than just a competition—it is a movement. This groundbreaking event is a key component of the International Conference on Gender and Technology (GTC) 2025, themed "Beyond Boundaries: Gender, Tech and Transformative Change."

  • Online phase: December 1-28, 2024
  • In-person finale: January 18, 2025 (During GTC 2025, January 16-19, 2025)
  • Location: Amrita University's Amritapuri campus, Kerala, India
  • Participants: 150-200 students from universities worldwide
  • Prize Pool: 100,000 rupees (1st: 50,000, 2nd: 30,000, 3rd: 20,000)
 
WHY THIS HACKATHON?
  1. Real-World Impact: Participants in the hackathon will develop AI-driven solutions addressing critical challenges faced by women and marginalized communities in India and globally.
  2. Expert Mentorship: Hackathon participants can learn from industry leaders and academics who have worked on AI and product development at companies like Google, Reddit, Baidu, and YouTube, as well as universities like Columbia, Amrita, and Manipal.
  3. Skills Development: Participants will develop and hone skills in generative AI, participatory design, prototyping, and product management. A series of free workshops will be offered in topics such as Product Management, The Generative AI landscape, GenAI Product Engineering, and AI and Empathy.
  4. Networking: Create a network of the next generation of AI entrepreneurs, researchers and policy experts who can effect social change with thoughtful applications of AI.
