Rising Above the Heat: Innovative Cooling Solutions for Rural Women in Asia

We’re excited to announce that Cooling Cambodia’s Pepper by People In Need (PIN) UK has been selected as the winning solution for Rising Above the Heat: Innovative Cooling Solutions for Rural Women in Asia!

This innovative project addresses a critical need in Cambodia’s Kampot pepper industry, which has been severely impacted by extreme heat and drought. While pepper farming is a community effort, women play a vital role in post-harvest processes and within farming cooperatives. The Cooling Cambodia’s Pepper solution will not only help safeguard these crops but also strengthen the resilience and economic security of the women who are central to the agriculture sector’s success. By introducing solar-powered cooling technology, this project will reduce post-harvest losses, protect the quality of the pepper, and ensure greater economic stability for women and their communities. The project impressed with its feasibility, scalability, and strong renewable energy component. With 60% of the project team consisting of women experts, plus local partnerships, Cooling Cambodia’s Pepper is set to deliver real impact on the ground.
